Earthquake emergency and christian fundamentalists

Emergency assistance

With the searing images of death and destruction pouring out of Haiti, Pat Robertson, America’s great symbol of christian fundamentalists, has offered up his own form of emergency assistance during this horrific disaster.

It is not enough that he refers to the earthquake as “a blessing in disguise,” but that he disguises his racist and bigoted beliefs in the name of some pathetic god who will no doubt lead he and his followers into the glorious cathedral of salvation.

Let’s be clear here. Due to the current natural disaster on this Caribbean island, one might think racial discrimination is his forte. The reality is that minorities of any form (in his mind, anyway) are his target. For added entertainment, he targets sexual orientation, women, political belief, and political heads of state, to name but a few. However, do not take my word for it. The record speaks for itself.

Ten great quotes on absurdity by Pat Robertson

The Haiti earthquake emergency brings out the best in some people, especially christian fundamentalists.
The Haiti earthquake emergency brings out the best in some people, especially christian fundamentalists.

1 - “They were under the heel of the French, uh, you know, Napoleon the third, or whatever, and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said ‘We will serve you‘ if you will get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said ‘Okay, it’s a deal’ and, uh, they kicked the French out.” - on the reason for Haiti earthquake.

2 - "You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with." - on assassinating Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez

3 - “"Wait a minute, I didn't say 'assassination.' I said our special forces should 'take him out,' and 'take him out' can be a number of things, including kidnapping." - on being a christian hypocrite.

4 - “There is no such thing as separation of church and state in the Constitution. It is a lie of the Left and we are not going to take it anymore.” - on the fallacy of church-state separation.

5 - “You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense. I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions but I don't have to be nice to them.” - on being a christian.

6 - “I know it sounds somewhat Machiavellian and evil, to think that you could send a squad in to take out somebody like Osama bin Laden, or to take out the head of North Korea, but isn't it better to do something like that, to take out Milosevic, to take out Saddam Hussein, rather than to spend billions of dollars on a war that harms innocent civilians and destroys the infrastructure of a country?” - on love of fellow man.

7 -  “The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians.” - on equal rights, baby killers, and lesbian witches.

8 - “I know this is painful for the ladies to hear, but if you get married, you have accepted the headship of a man, your husband. Christ is the head of the household and the husband is the head of the wife, and that's the way it is, period.” - on women with two heads.

9 - “Many of those people involved with Adolph Hitler were Satanists, many of them were homosexuals -- the two things seem to go together.” - on walking hand in hand.

10 - “To see Americans become followers of Islam is nothing short of insanity.... The Islamic people, the Arabs, were the ones who captured Africans, put them in slavery, and sent them to America as slaves. Why would the people in America want to embrace the religion of slavers.” - on his failed education.

My mother had the aswer to this one---the wife is the neck but the neck turns the head!

Great article and great to get that out. The first thing that I thought of when they said about the religions going into Haiti to help them, was not that they wouldn't---it was more in the line of how many can they "convert" while they are as far down as they can get. Kind of like a double edged sword--they get cut either way. That is the pitiful part of the whole thing.

hi lady g,

yes, to help our fellow human beings would be such a pleasure were not the strings attached.

that robertson is one scary guy. to think he has a following is even scarier.

There is another one like this too and that is Jimmy Swaggert. I have a video hub about him and homosexuality. Not many views though but you can get the vid off of that and use it for yours too. For some reason my name just brings out those who want to force feed me into eating the crap that they are eating and for some reason I don't know the Holy Spirit and they have the right to shove it down my throat. I feel sorry for the Haitians that are going to go through persecution as if they aren't going through enough pain and suffering already.

The scary thing is people follow him and agree with his rantings - he and his following are the throwbacks to the days of witch hunts and burnings. They would be comfortable if torture was established as a legal punishment for those who disagree with them. They would love to institutionalize their fundamentalist brand of religion - making it a state religion like Christianity was in Rome. I think they would be happy to see non-believers of their agenda fed to lions.

hey ralph,

thanks! he's certainly a disgrace to humanity, a despicable mentality. he labels himself a humanitarian on his website.

thanks for stopping back by.

hello kartika,

you're accurate on all accounts. i couldn't believe what i was reading, but the video confirmed it. there truly is no excuse for that sort of evil. imagine the 4 year old child whose parents make him/her listen to that sort of crap.

kartika, i just had a discussion about this very topic yesterday with an older german lady (well, a bit older than me), she grew up in germany. told the story of the occupation etc.

how religion was taught there, how her father attended church out of respect for his wife (her mother). until one day when her father was in confession, the voice of god sounded (her father), in no uncertain terms. the confession booth curtain went flying, out came her father, grabbing her and her sister by their hands, their mom followed. but not before she caught a glimpse of the priest leaving the booth, pale, wiping his face with a handkerchief. evidently the priest didn't buy the line that the father was a hard working honest man, so the priest asked if he slept with his own wife. yes, replied her father, she's my wife. well then, you live in sin, said the priest. from that moment on, the father escorted his girls into the church every sunday morning, turned, walked back down the aisle, out the door, across the street to the local pub/bar until the church service was over. the father made sure his daughters knew both sides of the story, saying that their mom was brainwashed into the religious belief.

that might explain why the church i had to attend as a child was three miles out in the country.

The real sadness is that while they are being taught this level of hate they ae also being lied to and being made to believe that this is love and they have to do this to be a child of god.

hi william,

really, you've just got to wonder sometimes about how these people made it so far in life. there is no end in sight to some of this. the images coming out of haiti break my heart, and then we get to listen to a member of the white mens club spewing racism disguised as religion. amazing.

Then again, the more these type of people talk, the more we see their true colours. Much like the forums :)

hey maita,

yes. i'm surprised and disappointed that he's not yet been held accountable for his remarks. granted, haiti is a priority right now, but at some point he must face the consequences.

I learned today that the Bishop of Port au Prince was killed, along with 100 other priests. What is Robertson's view on that?

Maybe Sarah will call him to task ... yeah, right :) I'm amazed she hasn't said anything stupid about it, or has she?

hello uw,

it will be interesting to here from him again.

re: palin, i've not found her comments yet on the matter, although it's almost certain she had something to say about our "aid" going to haiti.

evidently, it costs the u.s. $2 million/day to operate one of those aircraft carriers (am currently trying to confirm that number). regardless, the operating expenses of our military in haiti is a part of the total "aid" amount being sent. just a bit misleading.
