Texas Luxury In The Hill Country

While many factors contribute to the ups and downs of the North American economy, certain pockets of the country remain relatively safe from extreme economic swings.

The Texas hill country continues to reside in one of those pockets. Thanks to its unique location and topography, it remains a solid choice for investors and property owners alike. Several additional factors help contribute to its prime choice for home luxury.

The eastern boundary of the hill country is situated along the Balcones Fault, a line of demarcation that is one of the fastest growing areas of the state. Generally situated northwest of San Antonio and west of Austin, the hill country is easily accessed through international airports in each city. Additionally, Houston and the Dallas/Ft.Worth metroplex are all less than a five hour car drive away. .

The hill country continues to reap the benefits of its location, thanks to Austin’s hi-tech industry along with San Antonio’s medical complex and tourism industry. Those factors, combined with the area’s geographical features, make it one of the state’s top attractions. Rivers, lakes, valleys, and canyons fill the countryside.

Because of those attractions, the hill country is a magnet for investors.  Once confined to the west side of Austin and the northwest side of San Antonio, luxury homes  have now spilled over into the hill country.  Some are clearly visible as one drives the regions’ winding roads. Others, tucked into the valleys and canyons, are some of the area’s more luxurious estates. 

Many people, tired of Dallas and Houston city life, continue moving to the hill country, bringing to the area an affluent lifestyle that was unheard of just 20 years ago.  Once considered sheep and goat country, the hill country is now one of the state’s premier addresses.  Ranches continue to be carved up into developments, ranging in size from 3 to 35 acre tracts.  

Within these developments, and limited in number, hill top views continue to be the most sought after, bringing premium prices.  Understandably so, as these views are some of the finest this region of the state has to offer. It is no coincidence that elegant living is generally associated with them.  

Long synonymous with flat land, cactus, and infamous presidents, that Texas image is laid to rest upon arrival in the hill country  Throughout the area are numerous bed and breakfasts and a growing number of vineyards, increasing its popularity as a romantic getaway.  This is yet another factor helping hold hill country land prices constant.     

Thanks to its rich Mexican culture, a popular Texas riverwalk and the state’s most famous Spanish mission, the Alamo, tourism is San Antonio’s driving force.  Austin, with its universities and that hi-tech community, is projected to see an increased population growth of almost 15% by the year 2012.  This, combined with neighboring Round Rock as one of the fastest growing cities in the country, ensures the ongoing popularity of the Texas hill country.
